Death of the Mind – Or At least a Brief Reprieve

So often in my own life I find myself stuck or clumped up around something that I have no idea how to let go of. I always desire to fix problems, create solutions and find ways to be happy. While setting goals, identifying issues and being proactive is empowering and filled with growth, sometimes pushing self to go in ANY direction is self defeating and instead of being filled with peace, I am distraught.

In these moments I have found the best tool for me is to simply go back to Taoism. I have been studying the Tao Te Ching with a Zen master out of California. The practice is simple. Meditate, breathe and when I read the poems, I am filled with a quick understanding that all I have to do is “nothing.” There is nothing to do.

And more easy then journaling I find creating my own poem is a way for me to loosen, to relax and to let go.

The Space In between

I forget
Again and again
What it is to be present

I cannot find myself in mind
Yet, I so easily get caught there

Defining myself
By my experiences
I forget that I
Am not the
Content of my life

In seeking for a deeper sense of self
It is never enough
Nothing is ever enough
And here I am back in the landscape of mind

Yet in presence
No answers or questions exist
Here I float in the space in between thought

Sometimes I swim in a consciousness
Not dependent on content
Where I know all life form
As myself

I call this Love
The love that knows the other
As yourself

Moving beyond thought
Being intelligent without intellect
Only a person on the surface

I am more than everything
And I am nothing.

The events, emotions and thoughts
of my life,
are only that.

I am not a story.
I am not a body.
I am everything and nothing.

I am beyond content.

And yet I use stories, I use content
And I use my body
As a vehicle to understand my true nature.

Knowing that I am not my tools.
And that truth is not in my words and in my thoughts.

They just point
to the truth, to the spaciousness
that is within me, within you, within all.

True nature of me is in between all that is.
